Estonia has spent many centuries suffering from the impositions of "Catholicism" "Russian orthodoxy" and "Soviet atheism" and having liberated themselves from such impositions they now freely express themselves as a people whose identity is in the land, the earth and Mother Nature.
~The largest island of Estonia is the region of Saaremaa, its name meaning "the land ( maa ) of islands ( saare )" a name whose suffix "Maa" reflects the culture of Estonia as it means more than simply land and earth, it represents the personality behind them "Mother Nature".

Its extremely probable that the Estonian "Maa" which expresses the land and the earth, is a shortened version of this Sanskrit "Matr" just as we have the Croatian "Ma" and the Portuguese "Mae" meaning "mother".
