Rishi Markandeya has done severe penance to get Goddess lakshmi as his daughter to get her married to Lord Vishnu...Goddess Lakshmi appeared as a small child BhumiDevi and Markandeya brought her up lovingly. One day, Lord Vishnu appeared before Rishi, in the guise of an old Brahmin and asked to marry Bhumi Devi who is half of his age.

Rishi refused saying that his daughter is too Young and does not even know how to cook as she forgets to put SALT in food. BhumiDevi threatened Rishi that she cannot marry this old man and old Brahmin was also adamant to marry that young girl. Both God's has intentionally played this cute game to confuse the Rishi.

Rishi finally surrendered to Lord by closing his eyes to help him. When Rishi open the eyes, he found both old man and young girl as Vishnu and Lakshmi and they promised him to stay in that tenple to bless the devotees and accepts prasadam as saltess food.

This is the cute story and temple has Lord Vishnu, lakshmi and Rishi Markandeya as vigrahas to bless all the devotees and considered as equal to Tirupati Temple.
