Just observe these two “Sri Vimana”s (Shikhara/Tower) built by Great RajaRaja Chola and his Son Great Rajendra Chola.
Though Rajendra Chola had better understand of building Technology & resources, he chose to keep the height of Sri-Vimana of GangaiKondaCholeeswaram less than that of RajaRajeswaram in respect to his father the Great RajaRaja Chola.

This can be demonstrated like this:

While the “Tala”s (Storeys) of Sri-Viama built by RajaRaja Chola shrinks in size proportional to the height making it a straight line,

the storeys Sri-Vimana of Rajendra Chola do not shrink in proportion rather shrinks suddenly creating a “curvature” in the tower done purposefully to reduce the height.
